WELCOME to the Band Program at Baumholder American High School. This Newsletter is designed to familiarize students and parents with the band classes. Inside this edition you will find information on band policies, school rules, grades, and classroom procedures. After you have read through the Newsletter, please discuss this information with your son or daughter. Please sign the attached "Statement of Understanding" and have it returned to school. Please feel free to contact me at school or at home if you have any questions. In order to have a productive year with the band students I need your support. I look forward to meeting each of you at the school open house on the 9th of September.
  Climbing to Goal
I hope each of you had a wonderful summer. I travelled stateside visiting Nashville, Atlanta, Denver, Las Vegas, and Los Angles. While it all seemed to come to an end much to soon, I am ready to begin my 18th year at BAHS. I sincerely would like to provide the students with a high quality band program. To product the results I would like will require dedication and practice from all the band members. I would like to work closely with all of the parents to provide the best environment possible for the band members. Please plan on attending the open house to hear more about how you can help your son or daughter in the band program.

PHILOSOPHY
  Lamb of Knowledge
For music to be a worthwhile, enjoyable activity it must be taught in an orderly disciplined environment. All students have a right to learn in an atmosphere free from distractions caused by uncooperative students. The study of music provides for both the expression of emotion and the joy of entertaining. A
band requires teamwork, dedication, and hard work from all members to be successful. Our goal is to create a musical performance that pleases ourselves and brings joy to others. Band is an elective subject. Students are expected to be motivated toward learning music through instrumental performance. The welfare of the band is best served by students who dedicate themselves to improving on their instruments by regular practice. The rewards from a successful musical performance include a feeling of accomplishment, pride, an improved self-concept, and the desire to become even better. The ability to perform music is a gift that must be allowed to grow. Note with musicans

BAND CLASSES

Students have the opportunity to perform in five ensembles: Beginning Band, Intermediate Band, Advanced Band, Jazz Band, and Pep Band. All band classes are regularly scheduled classes except for Pep Band and Jazz Band.

TromboneStudents in the 7th grade may elect to play flute, clarinet, alto saxophone, french horn, trombone, baritone, tuba, or drums in the Beginning Band. A certain number of school instruments are available, but it is highly recommended that parents consider purchasing an instrument. I can recommend a stateside mail-order company that sells quality instruments at reasonable prices. This company normally delivers the instrument within 10-14 days after you mail your order. Payment may be made by money order or charge card. If you are interested I can supply you with information.
