I have the alumni registration form working again. My hosting company had disabled the previous script because hackers were using it to send spam. I spent most of the day figuring out how to change the script to make it harder to hack. I am slowly revising most of the alumni pages. The music part of the website will be going away.
I will be retiring at the end of school year 2005-06. My last day at BAHS will be June 16, 2006.

One year ago today I started updating the alumni page. Here it is 1 year later and while I have added updates at various times, I am still way behind in updating the pages. I made a decision today that I want to get all of the updates added and revise the website to make it easier to find information and easier for me to update. I plan to make the domain baumholder.com strictly for the alumni site and move the music page to baumholder.com/music. This will take more than a few weeks to accomplish as I continue my normal pace with my video and band activities at school. All of the pictures and information will disappear for a while but will return as the various pieces of the site are reconstructed. You can follow the process on my blog located at http://www.hartline.net/
I have donated my time and money for the web hosting service since I started the alumni page. I plan to continue to do this but if you would like to help with the costs you can donate to my Paypal account below. Your money is not required for the pages to continue but it is appreciated.

I know it has been six weeks since the previous update. The end of the school year is always a killer for me and this year I had three major TV production projects that took up all of my time. I am now in Nashville for the summer and have started the updates. I have about 70 to complete over the next several days. I hope this summer to finally complete the self-serve updates so in the future you can keep your info current.

Students from Beginning Band, Intermediate Band, and Advanced Band received instruction from instructors from the Modern Music School in Idar-Oberstein. Other "Band Clinic" are planned for later in the year.

The BIG REUNION is coming up in one month. Next week I will start posting information about the reunion on the main alumni page.

This is a first as I am updating the web site from 36,000 feet about the Atlantic. I am on my way to the MENC Eastern Division Conference in Pittsburgh. Thanks to my Powerbook I can catch up on updating all of the latest Baumholder Alumni. If I had the correct cable and didn't mind paying the connection charge I actually think I could upload the updates! Oh well, I guess that will have to wait until I check into the hotel.
The London Trip this year was another roaring success. The students and adults had a great time enjoying the shows and checking out all of the wonders of London. Of course the students probably liked Sega World better than the British Museum but I'm sure they learned a lot more than they will admit. The Witches of Eastwick was my favorite show but The King and I was also wonderful. Notre Dame de Paris was different than any other show I have seen because of the use of recorded music instead of a live orchestra. The dancing was worth the price of admission even if I wasn't crazy about the music. Take ear plugs if you are not accustomed to rock music!
Ron and I are already planning on next year's trip - it will be February 27 - March 4, 2001.

Students can sleep in after a late night watching the Super Bowl but teachers will be learning how to use the new "attendance module" for Winschool (the program that keeps track of all of our students).

Well I have finally returned from a wonderful trip to the Austrian alps. The Snow God was in a good mood and while the snow wasn't the best, it was good enough for my skiing ability. Anyone who will be in Europe during the next Christmas season, contact me if you would like to ski. For $55.00 a day you can get a hotel room, two meals per day, and a lift ticket. You just can't beat that anywhere!

I had a problem with the Alumni registration form and I did not receive e-mail addresses from the following alumni: Mark Pang, Christi Johnson (Heelan), Cynthia Smith (Shlimanoff), Cheri Carper-Rooks, and David Combs.
The problem has been repaired. If you know the e-mail addresses of any of these people, please let me know.
I have been working on the Alumni database and it will now automatically add new names to the database when a registration form is submitted. It will not however, add the name to the "Decade" pages, I still have to do that manually. I am continuing development on the database and hopefully in the future the "Decade" page will update automatically also. I would also like to add a section where you can update your data by entering a password but I still need to learn more about MySQL and PHP before that happens. Let me know if you find any problems in the new registration form. Right now it doesn't do a lot of error checking and that could create some problems.

I now developing a searchable database for the alumni page. The going is slow because of time but hopefully within the next several weeks the database will be up and running.
The Holiday Concerts are scheduled for December 12 and 13. Come out and support the music students.

The BAHS Field day was Friday and everyone had a great time. The Seniors won the class competion.
The Disneyland Paris trip yesterday was great. We received some rain during the day but the weather was great the rest of the time.

The end of the year concert dates have changed. The Beginning Band, Intermediate Band, and Middle School Chorus will perform on Tuesday May 30th and the Advanced Band, Jazz Band, and High School Chorus will perform on Wednesday may 31st. Both programs begin at 7:00 PM in the Baumholder Playhouse.
The Annual Advanced Band Awards Ceremony has been moved to Wednesday June7th beginning at 7:00 PM in the Baumholder Playhouse.

I am the Guest Conductor next week for the DoDDS U.K. Band Festival at Lakenheath High School. I return to Germany on April 27 but leave the same day for the European Musician Educators Spring Conference at Chemish, Germany. The next update will probably be on Monday the 1st of May.

Here is the latest on the Reunion. Several groups of Baumholder Alumni have combined to organize a reunion of Bucs to take place on April 13-16, 2001. The Reunion Site Coordinator is Kathleen (Cooksey) Sebenoler and Lynne Kaylor Maples is the On-site Coordinator. Lynne is the wife of a Brigadier General here in Baumholder. Steve Terhune, a 60's graduate and Carmen Rodriguez a 1991 graduate are also helping with plans. Here are the activities that have been suggested for the reunion 1) Tour the school, 2) Meet with former teachers, 3) Tour the Baumholder post and Neubrueke post, 4) Meet with the current students - some of the alumni would like to share their experiences both then and how they are now. There is also plans to present the mosaic "Buc" that originally was in the floor in the front lobby and later on the wall in the stairwell, back to the school. Lynne Maples rescued it from a closet where it had rested since the school was renovated back in the early 90's. If you have knowledge of the history of the mosaic "Buc" email Kathleen. Next weekend I will post a new page with all of the contact information about the reunion. Stay tuned.......

During the last several weeks I have received requests from Baumholder Alumni who are interested in attending a Baumholder Reunion in Baumholder. This reunion would take place sometime in April or May of 2001. I am currently working on organizing a committee of current Baumholder teachers who will help with the arrangements. As soon as details are worked out I will add a web page to this site with complete details of the event. Let me know what you think by sending an email to reunion@baumholder.com.
A while back I posted a request for information about Tom Savoie because it had been posted on another Baumholder Alumni page that he had passed away. Well, Tom contacted me this week and he is very much alive and living in Denver, Colorado. You can reach him at tsavoie@paradyne.com. I am still trying to verify a report about Anthony (Scott) Krasche and Gerald McIntire. If you know anything about either one of these individuals please contact me.

We returned from our 10th Music Study Trip to London on Monday. The trip this year was one of the most varied ever. We began with our usual trip to beautiful Canterbury Cathedral. After checking into the Royal National we attended a performance of the ballet "Swan Lake". While everyone seemed to enjoy the evening, it was the first time we had attended a "gay" show. Friday the group was divided between the new show "Fosse" and the drum and bugle corp show "Blast!" "Blast" was exactly what the name says - it was the most exciting musical event I have ever witnessed. The show will be on a world tour this year so plan on attending if it comes to your area. Saturday everyone entered the make-believe jungle at "The Lion King." You can't believe the animals - what a show! The TV Production kids toured the BBC Television Center and performed a radio drama at the BBC Experience. We closed the trip with a visit to "Speaker's Corner" and the Millennium Dome. Watch the photo album in a few days for some pictures of Baumholder students speaking at "Speaker's Corner." The Millennium Dome was a fun afternoon but it did not live up to the hype.

Gary Martin our lead trumpet player and all-around great guy leaves us today for Las Vegas. It will be greatly missed but everyone wishes him the best.

Kris Hewitt and Erin Taylor have been named to the DoDDS-Europe Honors Band for the third time! Gary Martin, Sophormore Trumpet player was as named a member of this years' band. Unfortunately, Gary will not be able to particpate in this year Honrs Band because his family is moving to the states.

The "Alumni" pages and the "Memories" page were updated today. The DoDDS Jazz Seminar begins today at Kaiserslautern High School. The concert will be Wednesday night in Ramstein Villiage.
December 12, 1999
The "Alumni" pages and the "Memories" page were updated today. A new Pep Band Photo Album was added. The Pep Band performed at the Winter Sports Pep Rally on Friday and at the game Friday night. Both the Boys and Girls teams won. This years' Lady Bucs are AWESOME! Look for them to be Division III Champions (AGAIN!).

The Bucs Football team opened the 1999 season with a 21-0 VICTORY over BK this past weekend. Go BUCS!! The "Alumni" pages and the "Memories" page were updated today. The new Beginning Band students are finally playing their instruments. They should take them home for the first time Thursday.

September 5th
I know it's been a while since the last update. I completed my summer vacation in the states on August 11th and have been busy adjusting to life in Germany again. The 1999-2000 School Year began last Monday with almost 400 students enrolled at BAHS. The band classes are looking good with 120 students playing in the band program. For the first time ever the Jazz Band students are all in my Seminar - that should make for a great year for the Jazz Band. I'm excited about the outlook for the year and looking forward to great concerts with the music students.

Everyone on the London trip returned safe and sound today. Highlights of the trip were the musicals, especially "Buddy" and "Phantom of the Opera", our visit to "Speaker's Corner", and the tour of the BBC Television Center. Plans are already underway for next years trip - which will include a performance of "Lion King".

Dan Calkins, husband of former BAHS teacher Dottie Rose (who passed away last year) passed away yesterday in Oregon after suffering a heart attack.

Trombone player Kris Hewitt and French Horn player Erin Taylor have been named to the 1998-99 DoDDS - Europe Honor Band for the second year. Alto Sax player Julie Jeanmard was named as an alternate. Chorus members Terrell Russell and Anita Arvelo were named to the DoDDS - Europe Honor Chorus.

Supply Clerk Don Borstad has left Baumholder High School and is now teaching computers at Ramstein High School.

Charmaine Wiggins, Kris Hewitt, and Jose Arvelo travled to SHAPE, Belgium to perform with the DoDDS - Europe Honor Jazz Band. Jiggs Whigham, a noted Trombone player will conduct the band.

The High School Holiday Concert brightened up everyone's spirits today.

The Middle School HolidayConcert tonight featured the Beginning Band, Intermediate Band, and Middle School Chorus. Mr. Hartline and Mr. Lundy were very pleased with the performances.

The basketball game scheduled for today has been cancelled because of a major snow storm. The game will be re-scheduled for later in the season.
November 30th
Dominick Calabria has replaced Thomas Dignan as the principal of Baumholder American High School. Dignan has accepted a position at Fort Benning, Georgia, with the Department of Defense Education Stateside Schools. Calabria's 29 year educational career includes teaching assignments in various schools in New Jersey and at Kaiseralautern Elementary School. He also served as assistant principal at Landstuhl Elementary/Middle and Sembach Elementary/Middle schools.
November 27th
The International Schools Theater Association (ISTA) conference began in Baumholder today hosted by Mr. Smith and the drama students. A light snowfall greeted the seven visiting schools from such places as Moscow, Istanbul, and Hamburg. Highlights of the opening day sessions was a performance of "Talk Radio" by the Baumholder drama students. The TV Production students, directed by Becky Stanford, video taped the performance.
November 21st
Kris Hewitt, Charmaine Wiggins, and Jose Arvelo have been named to the DoDDS - Europe All-Star Jazz Band. They will perform with noted Jazz Tombonist, Jiggs Whigham, in Shape, Belgium in January.
November 17th
as part of the Eastern Division Chorus of the Music Educators National Conference. Chorus teacher Ron Lundy will accompany Ansel and Herbie to New York City. Ansel and Herbie were members of the DoDDS- Europe Honors Chorus last year and applied to be representatives of the European Music Educators Association at the NEMC Eastern Division Conference. Congratulations to Ansel and Herbie!

The 1998 Baumholder Reunion will be featured on the Learning Channel on November 20th. Tune in at 1:30 EST to see the show.
November 13-14th
The 15th Annual Rock-A-Thon raised almost $7000.00 to help our London Music Study trip and the Music Department. Jennifer Delong received over $600.00 in pledges.
October 27th
The gym was filled with the sounds of the first concert of the 1998-99 school year tonight. The Intermediate Band, Advanced Band, Jazz Band, Middle School Chorus, and High School Chorus delighted the crowd with a varied and entertaining program. For the first moments we all forgot about the rain and wind in Baumholder.

Principal Dr. Dignan announced today he has accepted a job in Georgia and will be leaving Baumholder before Thanksgiving.
October 3rd
The Football team is for real this year. They defeated London-Central 58-14 this weekend.
October 2nd
The Fall Concert has been changed to Tuesday, October 27th. The change was necessary because the Volleyball team will be traveling to England on the scheduled day (October 28th).
September 21st
The 1999 London Music Study Trip has been approved by the DSO. The deadline for students and parents to sign up is October 15th.
September 17th
The Advanced Band completed the election of officers for the 1998-99 school year today. The new officers are President Anita Arvelo, Vice-President Jill Shear, Secretary Shannon Alexander, and Librarian Kris Hewitt. The first performance of the school year will be next Monday, September 21st for the "Welcome Home" for the troops returning from peace keeping duty.
The 2nd Period TV Productions class shot the first "Morning Announcements" today. The class will air these on Gold days only.

Open House tonight was a big success. About 50% of the band parents attended. I enjoyed sharing my plans for the 1998-99 school year.
August 31th
Over 350 excited students began school year 1998-99 today. The newly remodeled "Information Center" is an outstanding addition to BAHS. A computer LAN system was installed that will allow students and teachers to link to the internet from all the classrooms. The band classes have an enrollment of 107 (30% of the school). When you count the choral classes over 50% of our students are invovled in the music program!
The fall sports begin practice this week. The football team has 39 players attending practice. Tennis, cross-country, volleyball, and golf are also beginning daily practice. Let's wish the Bucs a successful season!
August 23th
I returned from Nashville, Tennessee on Friday August 21st. I enjoyed a wonderful visit with my son Bobby (a former Buc) but it is now time to begin another school year. I look forward to meeting all the new Band and Video students and working toward having a great year!
