"So many great memories, how do you pick the best? We lived at Strassburg Kasern in Idar Oberstein. Best place in the world. Remember the snowy rides in the winter on the bus headed to school at Baumholder? Snow on the ground from October to May. Some times it snowed too much and we were not able to make it to school. But it didn't stop us from getting out, going to the service & teen club. Best friends, Teresa Lee & Mona Poteet made the stay so much better. The friendship has lasted and we still stay in touch. The people at Baumholder made the memories, so many, too many to name them all. The teachers, Mr Mulder & Ms Holland were great and left lasting memories, great memories. Remember the drama club, the spades in the library, lunch at the Officers Club since we had no place to eat at school, graduation at post chaple? I don't know about anyone else, but I almost dreaded graduation because I knew that all the friendships & memories would almost end. People move, lives changed. High School ended. What is left but wonderful memories. So how can you put into words such memorable events that mark your life, just say Remember Baumholder and everything comes back. The class of 1972 is 50ish now. We all look back and remember all the great times we had and wish we could step back in time for just a little while and relive the good times." Jan Morris, class of 72

" Hangin' with all the "Heads" in front of the old movie house... having lunch at the "CC" ... chillin' with my bro Kevin Langley whom I haven't seen since 77' when we were living on the base in Strassburg. Last seen with Barbara and Gloria Solomon aka "Onion and Potato" . Yo Kev bro, if you see this, I'm still here man and hoping you're still out there. Baumholder was the bomb. And will always live in my heart. I'm so glad that this web-site exists." Edwin Rodriguez 1976-78

"My favorite memory is of all the awesome friends I made. Also our senior class trip to London. What a blast that was! Jocelyn, Peanut, Warren, Dazella, Chris, Steph and of course Beth and the loves of my Baumholder life. Chris O’Quinn, Mark Hendrix and Rick Smith. You guys were sweethearts and to Mrs. Rose and Mr. Reid [who took Beth and I to the Madonna concert] you two were the greatest. Beth, remember when we got busted for riding around with Steph, Chris and Peanut? Our parents were not happy were they? How funny! Well now I am a homemaker and a rich one at that. Living on easy street in Tennessee. All my old friends e-mail me at lford7397@comcast.net." Lisa Baker (Ford) 1987-88
"I don't really have any favorite moments of Baumholder, although Germany I have several. I remember one trip to Kusel, me and my friends made. As we went swimming at the Kusel pool, we saw this german kids doing something really odd. They pulled their bathing suits up so their butt cracks would show while they went down the slide. So what did we do, try it. Man, we zoomed all the way down that thing. It was so much fun." Jennifer Shute 1995-98
"Camping out and riding down the hill in the snow while being chased by the wild boars. The great friends we made and the Baumholder kennel club. Anyone who knew me (Ringo) please contact me waraxe78@aol.com." Dwayne Brown 1975-79
"Well, lets start at the beginning: Sarah Earls was my first friend, chillin with the skaters by the gym, makeovers with Deanna Brauer and Amy Carper, Booby Fest in London and the hot British guys with Colleen, Stephanie and Amy, "better late than never" awards for me and Brian for skipping Field Day (and Amy and Briana didn't get in trouble), Briana and my BWWC club, dance with Katherine (who is still my best friend in the world!!!) everything invovling drama-I love you Mr. Smith!, doing ballet lifts with Danny Hilden at lunch, flirting relentlessly with Jeremy K in physiology class, putting my dog's hair in my holocaust book for English, anything and everything that involved my first love Brian Smith-we had good times, talking about guys and sex with Jessica Madrid in pottery class, Receding Hariline shows/practices-I was the best groupie ever, long talks about life with Beavis pretty much everyday-I miss you so much! we need to get in touch, "managing" the boys soccer team which included having coach Schwab call me ME-shell, hanging out on the sidelines with Lucious Williams and Kris Lattao (tacos burritos burritos and tacos and tacos burritos for youuuuu!!!), random flirtings with Chris Davis (youngin'!), McDonald's trips, doing SO MANY stupid but incredibly fun things with Amanda Peebles, getting in trouble for PDA by Mrs. Domingues with EVERY boyfriend I ever had while I was there, eating lunch in the lobby, summer hire, MUN trip that included some firsts for me ( that later got me in trouble in college, nuff said), and the list goes on and on. I am so thankful for having so many teachers there who really touched my life- Mr. Hartline, Mr. Smith, Mr. O'Neil, Mr. Duncan, Coach Reilly, Ms. Magowan. You are wonderful people and I appreciate all you have done for me and everyone you encounter. I am prepering to graduate from George Mason University in August 2005, after that I am moving to San Diego, CA where I plan on pursuing a Master's of Social Work degree. I would love to hear from absolutely anyone who remembers me- as I look over this page I see people who when we lived there, we hated each other, but when I see their names now I feel nothing but a friendly bond. So write me, I'd love to hear from you! (mbrooks6@gmu.edu)" Michelle Brooks 1997-00

I would love to hear from all of my friends at e-mail address roellig@warsaw.k12.mo.us. Hope to hear from you soon!" Jowell Flippin (Roellig) 1983-85
"After reading the previous statements before my own leads me to concur with everyone else...I hated it when I was there, but I wouldn't trade it for the world! Things that stick out to me are obviously sports (Basketball, Track 93-95 Baby!) but most importantly, people. I find myself reminiscing about the times me and my boys (Reese, Carlis, Jose, Luis, Alexie, Tyus, Rod J.) had shared, as well as everyone else who I barely talked to. It's not as much as a single memory that links me to BAHS for life, it's the conglomerate of actions that took place while I was there from fests and snowy winters to hangin in the hallways in between classes and SPAIN Spring Breaks (please, don't anyone forget SPAIN!). I was blessed to have been able to spend half of my high school years in big school in the states and the other in DODDS and in comparison, because of the environment, BAHS wins hands down. No matter how small or how big the place where you came from may be, you must never forget home-" Danyiel Evans 1993-95
"I am actually a German girl who grew up with all of you beside me. Alongside, German and American, and a lot of you are right: There was no white or black, black or white, no matter what color, heritage, no Germans or Americans, just people, thrown together to make it work. It made me a different kind of person, growing up with diversity. I remember sneaking on base. I was there with some of my friends. I met my first husband (US military) in Baumholder, Germany. Baumholder was a great town, to just be a kid, and as I look, and read, through some of your messages, I am glad, that my little hometown had such an impact on your life. It is just a shame that you can never go back. Thank you! (Maybe someone remembers a German teacher visiting the high school, his name was Mr. Erwin Hahn and he was my grandfather!" Stella Savage 1976-91
"Being able to go home, or German town for lunch!! haha or the little pick-up shack across the street that served the best freakadeli & brockwurst, pomfrites in the world. gummis, hanging at the D.Y.A. playing basketball, football (go warriors, condors) and baseball for the great"MADDOG" or "Everheart".The scenery, snow and travel...so many things I can’t name them all. I can`t believe there was actually a web site for us former "Buccaneers". I just was playing around on my computer and went to google and got lucky. Thanks, this means alot!!!!!!" Dwight Douglas 1981-83
"Getting yelled at by Mr.Hartline, all the jam sessions during lunch breaks, all the people in jazz band." Stephan Johanson 1991-93
"Arriving in Baumholder the latter part of '82 and graduating in June 1985 says a lot by itself. I have very fond memories of school, the teachers and the friends I made while I was there. I returned in 1988 to visit and lived in Stuttgart from 1988 - 1991. So you see Germany became part of my home for a decade. I have been fortunate to have run into and spend time with some of my classmates. So here is to our upcoming 20 year anniversary. Much love to all of you. If you want to write to me pls do so, at special_ladyv@hotmail.com We should plan on getting together, after all 20 years should be a blast. Besides we are like fine German wine the older the better. Thank you for the memories of a life time. Love Vieanna Class of '85, WE RULED!!!!" Vieanna Rivera (Huertas) 1983-86
"I loved the area, met a nice German girl had good friends and good memories. Enjoyed being a part of Yearbook. Teachers I remember, Mr Mizgalla the shop guy and a Social Studies teacher whose name I can not recall. I think he was Hawaiin. Unfortunatly in my youth I had not yet learned how to be a good member of society. I suspect I have better memories of school, than the school does of me. None the less my time at BAHS was integral in who I have become." Michael Charter 1976-79

Thanks, Rod Martin." Rodney Martin 1964-65

"Like I said before, time erodes some memories, but a lot remain. I still remember jumping into a bus and putting a big gash in the top of my head. Ouch. I remember playing the air guitar to KISS with Ray Storey and Kenneth Bennett, anyone know their whereabouts? Hey John Walsh, I am pretty sure I remeber you. Great hearing from Larry after so much time. Denise Zingraf, I haven't talked to you since Oklahoma, are you still out there somewhere? Drop me a line guys, theantivol@knology.net" Bob Tate 1979-81
"My favorite memories, was actually getting the chance to spend some time around some really great people.Though I didn't show it at all when I was there is was great to attend school there and make some good friends. I know Mr. Hartline didn't like my bad habits while being in his class he and the other faculty, made a lasting positive influence on me." John Stellmach 1995-97
"There are too many to list...my friends I bowled with-Jenny Mason, Pat Martin, Kristina Jones and her brother John, Mike Morales. I remember sneaking out to smoke and seeing Walter Huse and Ray Jones. How could I forget the candy store downtown, 'Franks'? Or eating at Im Haag. I miss Susan Shumate, Debbie Colston (if anyone knows where she is I would love to catch up with her). I remember as far back as kindergarten with Mr. Levy and first grade with Mrs. Bishop. I remember the band trip to London in 7th grade when Walter...well he knows what happened in that gift shop. :-) Tina Benson and I constantly battling for first chair in band with our clarinets. The french horn players finding it rather humorous to empty their spit from the ends on our backs...you know who you are! The Hall of Champions..the BLT's at the bowling alley. There are too many memories of people, things and places to list here. If anyone out there remembers me I would love to hear from you." Kelly Annett 1984-93

Larry, if your out there...it's jj." Jimmy Wickman 1971-75
"The closeness of everybody is my favorite memory. Wow I know some of my teachers didn't think I'd make it to my Sr. year because of all the trouble I caused, but I'd like to thank all of them because they helped shape me into the young woman that I am today. Thank you all but especially Mr. Lundy for letting me grow with my talent, and Mr. Harrell for opening the world to me." Jordan Kurzyniec 1995-00
"My best memory of Baumholder besides all of the great friends was the CHAMPIONSHIP FOOTBALL SEASON OF 1983. I sit here in Iraq (2nd tour) and often think about those days with Bob Winfough, Ken Lenoard, Magerald Wilson, Jeff Wilson, Andre Calhoun, Larry Laspada, Chris Ransom, Ed Kennel, Kelvin & Nate Scott and many others...Coach Cornett who I spoke to just before leaving to Iraq is back in football...coaching a high school team in Phoenix..best of luck Coach.....Frank Brown " Lieutenant/ Dept. of Justice/ USAF Reserve" Frank Brown 1981-84
"I had too many favorite memories at BAHS including being on the track team, but not fast as Rick Jasper (ha,ha). Also dating Karyn Rowan in which I wish I could have dated other ladies as well during my senior year. But unfortunately I didn't stay too long after graduation due to joining the military and getting stationed in Frankfurt after my initial training (May 1989). The funniest memory was driving my parent's huge, ugly, "blue" old classic Ford station wagon known as the "party barge from hell". Everyone thought it was weird to ride as a passenger in that old tank. But-it beats walking, right? I also remember going out on Fridays and Saturdays to hang out the local bars and clubs in Birkenfield with other friends and being the designated driver so my friends could make it home safely. I always ended up going home alone because "Karyn" had always broken up with for some silly reason-I still don't know what for. I guess we were kids back then. The memories are good and I'll cherish them." Tim Curtis 1987-88
"Everything you hate about Baumholder are the things you miss first, the way it looks when it first snows, the fact that summer is only like 2 days, there is never anything good tv and the movies are bad. But what I miss the most are the people. I met my two bestfriends there and that is where I first fell in love. Things are different but I can always look back at Baumholder as this amazing place I went to grow up." Jessica Madrid 1996-00

"As a principal of Baumholder American High Schoolm my favorite memory was the great students and teachers that we had at Baumholder. We had an excellent academic and sports program at Baumholder, and as I recall, we won both the Basketball and Football conference championships. We, of course, enjoyed the opportunity to observe and be involved with the German Community as well as the military community. We had a teacher and student exchange program with several German schools in the community. For example, our high school band exchanged music programs with the German school orchestras. "There are so many. Ski trips to Austria and spying on my sister and mike. Cheering in the rain every game and winning. (we lost to Hanau because it did not rain). Sledding in the lowers and on suicide hill in the middle of the night, coming home for some hot chocolate and then going back with friends like Francis Brown, Thomas, my sister Denise, and several others. There are just so many memories I accumulated in the almost 4 years we lived there. The pond family lived across from us on 1 side and John Ivey, Keith, Thomas, Sherry and Ray Storey, just to name a few. Living there was the best time of my life. I grew up there. I went To Wetzel Elementary and then on to Bahs. Everyone was a friend to everyone. We were all in the same situation, that we didn't have a choice. There is definitely something to say about army brats. We really aren't brats, we just so happen to be the lucky children who get to travel the world and make more friends in a lifetime than any non-military brat would ever think of making. Our memories are specific. I wouldn't trade my time or friends I've made for all the money in the world. Reminiscing on the pictures that we took over there always brings tears to my eyes. All of my friends, I miss you and wish we were in touch again." Diana Zingraf 1978-1982

" I think the best thing about BHR hands down, was the people. I have never come across a better group of people since I left BHR!!! We all complained the whole time we were there, but I would jump at the op to come and do it all over again!! Class o' 96 was probably the best class to ever walk out of BHR, but that is my bias opinion ... but I had friends, good friends in all the grades that surrounded 96 too!! From road trips with the band, track, volleyball, and basketball teams, to just hanging out in class learning and laughing ... LIFE WAS GOOD!!! I hope my name sparks up a few good memories of the old days for everybody who reads this and they write back!!!" Andrea Harrison (White) 1993-96

"I have several memories. One of which was one winter night, several friends, including Francis brown, my sister and her friends all went out sledding in the lowers at suicide hill by the light of the moon. When we were cold enough, we all came back to our house in the uppers and mom and dad made up some hot chocolate and food, just enough to get us back on our way out for some more snow fun. I also enjoyed cheering for BAHS. My sister Denise and I were on the squad together, and the football team was great. That year we won USAEU champs. It was funny though, because it seemed we won every game in the rain, and my sister still let the cheerleaders get on her shoulders with muddy feet for the pyramids we did during the games. The only game we lost that year was to Hanau, and that was because it was not raining that day. I have so many memories about Baumholder; they are to many to list. I would return in a heartbeat if the job permitted." Diana Zingraf 1979-1982

After reading some of the other memories I too can relate to sledding down the hill in Faulenburg, going to the teen club and dancing to songs like Gloria, going to football games to support the team. One thing I remember is that when I would go to the teen club I loved to do door check. I would take everyones door check so they didn't have to. I also remember selling refreshments at the teen club." Carol (Jones) Mayer 1964-67

I had a lot of friend like Queena Ruffin, Yajaira Gonzales, Loreal Nysta, Aanda Lyles." Danielle Windover 2001-02
"Practice dancing to 45's (Elvis, Frankie Avalone, Chubby Checker)in the maid's quarters. Sledding down suicide hill, steering wildly to miss the playground equipment, buildings and the woods at the bottom. Tapping on the radiators in my sister and my bedroom sending secret messages to the boys living below us. Walking out the door of our Falenburg apartment in the morning and looking over the valley, seeing the the white steeple of the church inching up above the fog that laid like a white blanket over Baumholder. Trips down the Rhine river with the smells of wine, food and river filling the air. Meeting up with my best friends and exploring the woods and paths behind our Falenburg apartments. Finding a dud in those woods and poking it with a long stick just to see what might happen..then getting into big trouble because my sister told my Mom and Dad. Arriving in Germany and seeing no Dairy Queens, modern buildings and thinking, how am I going to live like this for the next 4 years. Leaving thinking, I'll never have it this good again." "One of my favorite memories is of the snow,
the giant icicles hanging from the trees, school being called off due to
the
extreme winter weather. I loved the Teen Club, where I met my first"serious" love,
a German boy by the name of Robbie Ruth. I loved the field trips to Heidelberg,
the
Rhine River. I loved the family trips to Munich and Garmisch and going to the
top of the Zugspitz by cablecar 10,000 feet up and the ice-melt Eibsee Lake.
I enjoyed being in chorus with Mrs.Heater, English class with Mrs. Root and
Mrs. McGowan. Mrs. McGowan, do you remember the dresses my mother created and
sewed for you? You could have a good day shopping with just a few marks in
your pocket in downtown Baumholder in the late 60's - four marks to a dollar.
I was Art Editor
on the "Lorelei", and voted "Most Talented" in 11th grade,
presumably for art and chorus where I did a couple of solos. I would really
like to get in touch with Wanda Bryant, Mimi Arzuman, Janet Harrington, Nancy
Blankenship, Steve Cox, Lily Cox, Patricia Winters and Roy Keenom - thanks
Roy, for the pretty pearl ring you sent me just after we moved to California.
These people would have been the Class of 1969 (except for Lily) My father
retired from the army in December 1968, and so I wasnt' able to graduate in
Baumholder, but graduated in 1969 in California. It was very tough to leave
my graduating class. I still miss everything about Baumholder High. My memories
and experiences of Germany and at Baumholder High are easily some of the best
of my life.
I feel priveleged to have gone to Baumholder and been able to live in Europe

I just look forward to returning one day. To all the people from the Class of 96 I know most of you think I was mean, which I was, but I hope all of you are doing good and wish you good luck in what ever you do in the future. If you want to get at your boy my email is Carlis.Johnson@McConnell.af.mil. Big Up to the Class of 96. Holla at ya boy.. " Carlis Johnson 1992-96
"Competing in the 1985 DODDS Europe Tennis Championship. Playing Lead Trumpet in Bob Hartline's Loft Orchestra for BAHS production of the Suund of Music. The excellent exchange program BAHS had with Birkenfeld Gymnasium set up by Herr Thompson of the German Dept. Meeting people from all over the US, and now after nearly two decades, that experience is richly enhanced to keep in contact with the many friends I've lost contact with over the years. Kudos to Bob Hartline for his efforts in getting this site established." Thomas Baker 1983-85
"As the years have gone by, the more I realize how much I miss being in Baumholder and miss being around the people who meant the most to me. " My favorite memory of Baumholder was going to the Oktoberfest and Baumholder Days. My friends and I would wear our best outfit on that Friday to school and after school we would go down to the event and hang out all night and meet people. One night Nicole Jernigan and I were there for so long that owners of some of the rides let us ride for free all night long. Some of my best memories in high school were of my then-boyfriend Chris Pass (we shared something special and I will always care for his kind heart and gentle mind), singing in Advanced Choir and going on the London trip with Mr. Lundy, saving a weeks lunch money to leave campus to get "strips" or McDonalds for lunch, having Mrs. Jynes (my best friend Tiffany's mom) as our nurse, getting a final grade of 113% in Ms. Larsons class, Mr. O'neil (the cutest Social Studies teacher I've ever seen), Mr. Dougan (he made math easy to understand and one of my favorite subjects), my many boyfriends, my Honors English teacher Ms. Magowan (poor thing....she cares for her students so much, she used to cry in my class all the time) and last but not least all of my friends (all of which I still talk to) Constance (Konstanzniqua) Brown, Tiffany (TJ) Jynes, Neina (NeNe)Baumgartner, Krystal Oatts, Chris (Pretty Boy) Price, Chris (Lover) Pass, and Darren (DJ) Bland. For those who were my friends or knew me and lost contact please write me. Baumholder, though small and easy at times, will always hold a special place in my heart. "Some of my best and worst memories come from Baumholder. I look back and cringe at some of the mistakes I made, but I learned some lessons and had so much fun making them. Everything from my first "date" (my dad dropped me off at the wagonwheel theater and then picked me up right after) to my first love happened there. I made wonderful friends: Teoma Matthews, Nicole, and Leslie Negron (remember getting all dressed up, sneaking out Teoma's window to that disco, and getting hit on by all those middle aged bald guys??) and later Andrea Gergay, Michelle Povilatis and Jenn Walker? Trips to Mannheim to see friends (Spanky) with Michelle and Jenn (remember jumping off the train??) All of the Creative Connections trips that were just out of control, drama trips (especially to Berlin), MUSS trips (complete with my own personal stalker). Going to the laser and dancing all night, and all of the drinking and corousing that went on. Teachers like Ms.Magowan and especially Mr. Lundy come to mind often, even 10 years later. Mr. Lundy is the kind of teacher that every child needs, and the kind that I aspire to be. If you ever find yourself in Kansas, look me up! sambolina1@hotmail.com" Samantha Bishop (1988-94)
"When I think back to that time of my life, I can't help but think of all the friends I had made. I have made many great friends through out my life. Some I keep in touch with, some I don't. However, the faces of all the people I had know in Baumholder still stay with me. It was truly a happy time in my childhood." Diana Collins 1977-81
"The closeness of the community. Playing tennis on Coach Ginter's team. Doing a full hour's worth of excercise in Coach Stanford's gym class. Hearing Mary Coursey sing solo in Mr. Hartline's chorus class. Doing the paper graphs in Mr. Horvath's class. The 1986 girl's championship softball team. My closest friends that I will never forget...Gina and Tina Cersosimo, Susan Bryant, Melody Beck, Jenny Borja, Lynn and Eddie Charafaros, Tina and Tracy Contizano, Jeff and John Genninatti, Sean Hapes, Ryan Ross, Kevin and Johnny Taylor, Greg and Peanut Colier, Karen and Stephen Rowan, Stephanie and Brian Roudabush, Renee and Marc Sexton, Richard Almond, Michelle Bedard, Patricia Purdy, Bernie Stebner, Gina Decker, Clayton Collins and everyone else. "I have quite a few good memories. One of them is my sophmore year, when i went to ISLI. Another would be my junior year when i went to the Hague with the journalism teacher his wife (a counselor at the school) and another student. I spent my 17th birthday with them. I forgot their names though, sorry! A lot of the other great memories are when I was in sports, or at the basketball games. I loved going to the basketball games. That was our sport. I hope it still is. And I would have to say, without a doubt, my favorite teacher was Mr. Lundy. Mr. Lundy, if you read this, e-mail me please. I would love to get in contact with you. " Ernest Cervantes 1998-01
"There are so many memories that I have from living there that I can't name them all but I had a ball and I would not change a thing. I used to say that I couldn't wait to leave but now that I am gone I wish I could go back. I miss all of my friends even they have all moved on (x-man, Haizel, yatta, Britney, jennifer, and many more). I miss it when I was manager on the track team and we went on all of those trips. I miss going to german town and the all-areas and going to the eis cafe. Most of all I miss Mr. Lundy's chorus class. He was the best teacher up there and no one has yet been able to compare to him! Love ya'll!!!" Yanika Mitcheam 1997-00

" A lot of really, really cute chicks right when I was at the time of sexual awakening. "Cheerleading, home coming all of the games, trips, and of course Ms. Rose." Gwen Overton (Livingston) 1998-91
"Way too many good memories to pick just one. Like the long sports trips and water fights on the track bus. It was like a small town, everyone knew everyone, for good or bad, and you stuck together. We might have been a small school but we could get loud!! One of the most interesting things I ever learned was the jitter bug in drama. Confusing as all get out, but lots of laughs watching people trip over themselves. Cookie Thursdays in cross-country the best part of practice!! " Leissa Laigaie 1999-02

"The most vivid memory of my time in Baumholder was the commaraderie of students and staff. I think those years were the most fulfilling of my years growing up. I made many friends, most of whom I've lost contact, and got to experience the German lifestyle. I take students back every other year because of my love for the country. I hope to hear from anyone that remembers me." Mike McKinney 1978-81

"I have tons of favorite memories and it's great to reflect on them. It's funny also how not-so-good memories can come back to haunt you. I remember disliking Bobby Danzie because I thought he was a big jerk who tried to bully people and would never run to catch the bus. Now, that memory makes me laugh because in two years, I'm going to marry him. ~Mandy Stevenson (soon to be Stevenson-Danzie)" Mandy Stevenson 1991-98

Despite the dreary weather, how can we forget the trips to Kusel, Birkenfeld JDs, human sledding, parties in the attic and the gasthauses just outside town. Graduated in 1965 and then off to Munich for another fun year. It was another time and place but it all was fun." Pete Suthard 1962-65
"I remember all the great times we had on basketball trips and the band concerts for the elementary schools in the area. I had the nick-name of "Jelly-Belly". I was on the JV and varsity basketball team. I was also in the band and the chorus. The fond memories of the trips to Berlin and down to France to place basketball.I remember coach Behner class reading Time magazine each week. Catching the bus to go to lunch. I lived in Neubrucke at the hospital. If there is ANYONE out there that remember me please e-mail at marauder51@hotmail.com. " My favorite memory is just being able to be a part of this group of Baumholder American High School. It truly was a great experience that I don't think any of us ever truly appreciated. Now I think each one of us that has returned to this site to add our names to the list knows now what a great opportunity at hand we really had. No one else understands us the way this group does. Thanks for all the memories and Congratulations to everyone on the list who accomplished what you set out to do when I knew you and those that didn't you have excelled in a different area. Congratulations to all the former Bucs. If you keep in contact with others that are not listed on this site please contact them and have them add their information. "Meeting people that I still keep in contact with today even though we spread out all over the world after graduation. I don't know about other people, but finishing High School in Baumholder (as bad as many think that is at the time) prepared me for many things out there. I'd have to admit though that getting away with murder on sports trips was ranks up there. Whoever is coaching tennis now...give them curfews at Europeans. Coach Reilly, dont fall asleep on basketball trips. As for soccer, some things should be left unsaid." Nick Stott 1994-97

"There are many favorite memories of Baumholder. My first good impression was the picture postcard effect of the first afternoon's sunshine across the valley our first full day there, and the church bell. . .sounded like a million bells echoing.
Of course the first impression was, "what the heck", as the train chuffed backward out of the station after depositing its load of bewildered Americans at what was obviously the end of the world.
Then there was that cold snowy night when a deuce-and-a-half pulled up to our apartment building in Fallinburg and took my father and most of the other fathers away with their duffel bags, to who knew where. . .although we all knew the obvious destination was Berlin, and the Wall. We all dug into our issued C-rats and tried to guess where our little bit of map would direct us out, if there was an "out". It was one of the top ten most scary nights of my life.
Being in the Boy Scouts in Germany was certainly a treat. How many 10 to 13 YO boys get to play "Knights" in a true Mideval Keep, or go barging down the Rhine past the Loreli? Or see a tank get pulled out of the mud during Camporee (decided right then and there I didn't want to be a tanker).
Ok, I know a lot of people can relate to going to my first dance, with my first "real" date to the Teen Club, and getting a first, ever, albeit cold and wet snowy kiss from the "New Girl" after sliding down "Suicide Hill" in a mattress box. This Southern Boy (Ft. Campbell, Ft. Rucker, Ft. Jackson) had bareley seen snow before seeing Baumholder wrapped in a white mantle framed with fir branches and looking like a Christmas card.
Baptism by snow? You know it is snowing when you look out the window during an American History class, and find you cannot see the gym or the band room at all because of the blowing white stuff. Ten years later I saw snow like that again in North Chicago as I was waiting at a train station for a shuttle to take me to my barracks at the Naval base. Realized I had seen cars that dirty, too, when I lived in Baumholder. Anybody know where I can find a pair of snow skates?
Regretably I have not made it back to Germany, but maybe some day I will. In the mean time if you are ever in Kansas City, drop by the Germania Club (www.germaniakc.org) and ask for me and say Prosit, and I will buy you a beer." Phillip Thompson 1960-62

"I've just finished scanning a lot of the memories y'all listed, including the vague one I added over a year ago. Mine was pretty weak because I couldn't seem to get a grip on what it is that makes Baumholder so special to me. Everyone, including myself, remembers friends and a few forbidden spots and special or strange situations they were a part of while living in Baumholder. When I asked myself "what really are my most favorite memories of Baumholder?", I thought "the place, Baumholder, isn't a favorite memory of mine, it was a miserable place, as it was always raining, overcast, or bitter cold and it surely wasn't a Disney World for teens". The forbidden spots I went to would have been just some place (some were outright dumps) to get unlawfully (American Law) snockered if I had gone alone. The situations like the Teen Club, playing sports, etc. were nice and exciting to be a part of but without the right people to share those times with, they would have been empty moments shared with people who wouldn't have cared less. So, my treasured memories of Baumholder has to be the friends I made and all the people I got to know well in such a short period of time. People I only knew for 2 1/2 years yet people that still have a name and face in my memory and a place in my heart. I've met many people since that time in Baumholder and even made friends with a few of them but most have been forgotten and I never had that feeling of "fitting in" or closeness with them that I felt and still feel for the friends and acquaintances I met in Baumholder. I've talked, written and emailed some of you because I felt like I needed to "go home" and get in touch with somebody I have something in common with. Yes, we've grown up and gone on separate paths since Baumholder, but I still feel there's a special bond with all of you whether we were close friends in Baumholder of not. I just want ALL OF Y'ALL to know, EACH and EVER ONE of you are my most favorite memories of Baumholder." Ric Reynolds 1963-1965

"My favorite memory was the friendships that I made with a unique group of people whom I grew to love and cherish dearly over the years. I haven't found that same bond with any other people as of yet in the world today. We were a family of greatness inspired to do great things and become even better people. I thank them all for that experience." Stephen Mannery 1989-92
"All the real friends that you don't have a chance to meet stateside in a big school. The worst thing is to rotate between junior and senior year. Well it's 40 years later and I’m still breathing so you can’t never tell. I still remember Ric Reynolds and ran into him a few times, Ric and Liz are together now. Walking every where and not even realizing how much I enjoyed it. My friends, Harold Worrell, Jimmy Wickman, and my first love Heidi Moore. "Hey everyone. . . I have good and bad memories, but my best were in school. I loved going there because we had all that space and weren't treated like we were prisinors. Well I also enjoyed being with my best freind Jennifer Gibbs, who I still see and talk to. I went to go see her in Orlando Fl in the summer and had the time of my life. I have many of my friends that I grew up with, but not many I am too proud of. I graduated with a hope scholorship at Shaw High School in Columbus Georgia this year (2002) I am very proud of myself because my future has started. I am so happy to tell you I recieved a job in Atlanta Ga as a model scout and will be making a lot of money doing what Ilove. Maybe soon I'll be on tv and act which has been my dream for the longest time. I wish everyone the best of luck with your lives, because it really does go by fast. I left Baumholder and realized I left a big part of me and turned my life now into a bigger part. I did, well we all did a lot of stupid things in life and we all hopefully learn from them. I did and that's why I'm not afraid to be myself. When I went to school in Baumholder, I was picked on most of my time there which was from 7th-10th. I was small, bony and really had nothing to look forward to, now I get all the attention because not only did I learn from people being hard headed, but I also turned my inner beauty to outer beauty. For those who tease and hurt people, I'd like to thank them for changing my life. And you should realize if you keep that up you will end up being a nobody and get what you gave in return. I would love to thank all my teachers. My favorite Mr. Standford, I know you remeber little old me, Mr. and Mrs. Graham, Mr. Smith, and all the teachers that helped me with understanding life. Thank you!!!! yours truly soon to be actress Yasmin Melanie Samson." Yasmin Samson 1997-2000

Hey girls do you remember when we went on tour around Germany doing that routine? :) :) :) Cristy Harris (Vinson) 1985-91
"Tennis and Band. I was only at Baumholder from Christmas of '69 to graduation of '70. The seniors tried so hard to help me to fit in. Being a 'brat' was hard because you never knew when you were going to move again. I remember the "chang" twins. I remember bus trips to other school, I really remember the tennis trip to Berlin. I remember some of the guys and how I probably screwed with their heads, not meaning to hurt anyone, but I was young! I'm pretty sure no one remembers me, but I was there! I remember they had more bars in town than stores! The tennis courts were so windy because they were on the hill that was opened! I still have the yearbook from the class of '70 so that helps in remembering names and faces, I always wonder if I ran into someone from Baumholder today could I still see their face and remember after age has taken it's place? THANKS for letting me write my memories!" Beth (Peters) Higgs 1969-70
"The Teen Club mostly, line dancing to GLORIA like Chuck said, Foosball games, hitchhiking in the slush to Neubrucke. Trips to other cities, Trier my favorite. Our Football trip to Verdun. One sad memory, our quarterback lost an eye in a game, can't remember his name. But hope he's having a good life otherwise. Remember Gasthaus drinking, hung out with Chuck Meibeyer, Diana Clark, Debyy Roop and others. Enjoyed our basketball games, we had a great team in Fall of 66. I graduated Seaside High in '69, US Navy active duty 69-73, married, one daughter. Now working at the Naval Postgraduate School in Resource Management office of the Provost. Thoroughly enjoyed reading the memories of all who were there in the 60's, brought back many of my own. Hi to Chuck Meibeyer if you read this." Scott Hutchins 1966-66
"Baumholder was a great place. It was the 50's the Cold War and there was the ever-present threat that loomed. Still, we had access to the rest of Germany and Europe. Baumholder was isolated and it was uniquely like a small US town. We could do things in the gausthauses that we couldn't do in the US. We were the first classes at BHS (1956). Many of us ended up at Ft Hood when the 2nd Armored rotated in 57 so we had some on-going contact. Over the years we have lost contact. But, thanks to this site and the links, many of us are slowly reconnecting. Thanks for maintaing the site." Charles E. "Chuck" Sullivan 1955-57

"It would have to be my last year of coaching wrestling at Baumholder AHS in 1981. We hosted the all German DoDDs Wrestling Championships at Baumholder and one of my wrestler's (Tony Swanson) took the championship for his weight class. He wanted the National Anthem to be placed while he was being presented his medal by The Head Post General. Well it wasn't the National Anthem and the general was not very happy with me, but I just look back at it and have to laugh about it over and over again. I'm getting ready for the reunion here in Denver this week. Hope so see some friends." Dale Kestel 1975-81
