Dear Music Parent,

For the tenth year the Music Department at Baumholder High School is sponsoring a music study trip to London. The trip will take place from February 23rd through February 28, 2000. Any student in Band or Chorus is eligible to participate. Every effort will be made to accommodate all students who wish to take advantage of this trip. We have made arrangements for a group of 120. It is important that students return their trip permission forms by the deadline so we will have an exact count of the participates.

Students will have the opportunity to attend concerts and musicals, as well as tour famous British landmarks. London is rich in musical tradition with many opportunities for music students to experience musical theater, classical concerts, and a dynamic "pop music" culture. Activities are being organized that will be both entertaining and educational. Our days will be devoted to discovering the sights of London, followed by a concert or musical. The musical highlight will be a performance of the musical “The Lion King.” The trip will include a visit to the famous city of Canterbury.

Students who participate in the trip will be excused from their regular classes. Students will be expected to complete any class assignments or activities they miss because of the trip. The cost per student of $375.00 includes the following: all transportation costs, hotel with breakfast, all special tours, and all concert/theater tickets. Meals and spending money are not included in this price. Students will have the opportunity to attend a Saturday matinee of their choice. Any extra theater tickets offered to students will be in addition to the base amount. For those adults and students who have traveled with us on a previous trip, alternate activities will be planned so you will have new London experiences.

Our hotel will be the Royal National located near Russell Square. Each room will have a private bath, television, and a telephone. Students will be housed two or three per room. There will be an additional supplement for adults who desire a single room.

While in London we will travel during the day by the "Tube," London's subway system. Our buses will transport us to the theater each night, but we will return to the hotel by way of the "Tube". The trip price includes a "Tube" pass that allows you to travel throughout central London. An additional bus tour to Windsor Castle will be offered on Saturday morning.

Several fund raising activities will be provided for those students who wish to help pay for their trip. Both individual fund raising events and group events are planned. Any student who participates in these fund raising activities should be able to raise a substantial amount of their trip costs.

If you desire for your student to participate in the music study trip to London please fill out the attached trip contract and return with the first payment by Friday, October 15th. Please note the payment deadlines and cancellation fees that are listed on the contract. Of course, exceptions will be made for students who have to cancel because of emergency leave, serious illness, or an unexpected PCS move. We are in need of adults to serve as chaperones. If you would like to join us, please check the appropriate box on the contract, and we will send you a special chaperone contract. The Adult cost of the trip is $390.00. The hotel price has been quoted for double occupancy and the single room supplement will apply if you will be traveling alone.
